Swirled in a smoothie or simmered in soup, Silk is right at home in the kitchen. In fact, you can substitute Silk for dairy milk, cup for cup, in almost any recipe. Here are a few of our favorite reasons to put on an apron:

  • Discover the ultimate power smoothie: Silk plus whatever fruit you love.
  • Swap Silk for milk in mashed potatoes, creamy soups and other comforting classics.
  • Use Silk in breakfast treats like muffins, pancakes and French toast.
  • Add a splash of Silk soymilk or Silk Live!® soy yogurt to salad dressing for a creamy effect.

Cooking Tips

Cooking with Silk is easy, especially when you keep these tips in mind:

  • In general, you can substitute Silk for milk, cup for cup.
  • Like milk, Silk will scorch if cooked at too high a temperature and can form a skin when heated. Stir constantly and use moderate heat for best results.
  • If you're using Silk in a cooked pudding or custard recipe, reduce the liquid and increase the thickening agent (such as cornstarch) by a few tablespoons. Because Silk is very low in saturated fat, it requires a little extra thickener to set up properly. (Better yet, choose from one of our pudding or custard recipes, which were specially developed to work perfectly with Silk.)
  • Silk creamer doesn't contain enough fat to whip up like dairy cream, so don't bother trying. (But it drizzles deliciously over fresh fruit or cobbler!)
  • Freezing Silk isn't recommended for storage, because the consistency and taste can deteriorate upon thawing. However, Silk works beautifully in fun frozen desserts like Silk Granita.
  • Silk Unsweetened is our most neutral Silk, suitable for almost any recipe. Silk Original brings the faintest trace of sweetness—similar to dairy milk—and also works very well for most cooking occasions.
  • Silk Vanilla, Silk Chocolate, Silk Very Vanilla and our great holiday flavors bring scrumptious extra flavor to desserts and breakfast treats.
  • Feel free to cook with our Wellness soymilks—Silk Heart Health and Silk Omega-3 DHA and Calcium—just as you would regular Silk. Their special nutritional benefits remain, even when they're cooked.
